Working out at home
Updated: Dec 18, 2018
Not sure how to start working out at home - why not here?
If you are trying to build strength but aren't great at exercising, don't have equipment, or don't know what the hell to do, never fear. Today, I am going to share with you two exercises that are great for anyone, anywhere, at any time.
#1 Plank
Why it's effective: having to stabilize on four point allows you to engage your core muscles and keep them active in a static position. It also recruits other supporting muscle groups and strengthens your body overall.
What it works: core strength and stability, full body
How it works: get in a push up position on the floor, push your shoulders away from your spine, squeeze your abs and all the muscles in your legs and glutes. Keep your body in one straight line, not letting your hips drop, nor go to high into the air. Hold this position and do not break form for the time allotted. If your form falters, take a break, then come back.
#2 Overhead squat:
Why it's effective: this exercise engages all the muscles in your legs as well as supporting core, back, and shoulder muscles.
What it works: core strength and stability, legs, glutes, posture
How it works: starting with hands straight above head with your arms by your ears, move your feet shoulder width apart. Keeping your arms up the whole time and squeezing your core, push your hips back and drop your butt down to the floor, maintaining knees in line or behind the feet.
Workout breakdown:
For a 10 minute countdown, do 30 seconds of plank and 20 overhead squats until time is up.
